Frequently Asked Questions
What does this site do?
This site is a public information and referral service sponsored by many agencies and partners in Northwest Georgia. Our goal is to quickly provide clear information about the agencies, programs, groups, and individuals that serve people in Northwest Georgia and can help make life easier. We have hundreds of listings about services such as day care assistance, emergency food and shelter, along with other types of information that people need to lead happier, healthier lives.

How do I use this site?
It depends on what you're looking for. Most information within this site is available through a relational database driven search engine. At the core of this database is data that was created in support of United Way of Northwest Georgia and its mandate to provide information related to health & human services for people in the community.

Using the search program found from the SEARCH page of this site you can access information from over 40 service providers. You can narrow your search for services down to the region where you live, or further narrow your searches by using the and/or constraint.

What if I don't have a computer?
You can call our toll free phone line 24 hours a day at 211. Our staff uses the same database provided on the website. Please note that this number is not an emergency line; you will need to call 911 if somebody's life is in danger. But if you're looking for some information about services to make your life a little healthier and happier, you've come to the right place.

How much does this cost the public or users?
Nothing. This information and referral system is supported by sponsors and donations to United Way.

Why was this site created?
This site was created by the United Way of Northwest Georgia and is a natural outgrowth of community needs for effective information and referral and the development of new technology tools that help fulfill those needs. The nature of the technology may change, but the site is designed to be a flexible solution to evolving community needs regarding community resource information management.

In the past, the United Way funded information and referral in the community in the form of a phone answering line called "Can Help." With the development of new technologies, just a few people answering phone lines during work hours was not the best use of resources. Since then, the United Way has been funding the increased use of technology to support these information and referral services.
